DJ's Better Body Personal Fitness

The Better Body program is an adaptation of Peripheral Heart Action Training, or PHA. This system of training was developed by Bob Gajda, winner of the 1966 Mr. America and 1967 Mr. Universe titles. He also owns a health complex in Chicago and is one of the world's leading experts on physical conditioning. Essentially, the human heart is not large or strong enough to pump all of the body's blood supply throughout the vascular system on its own. As a result, it relies on hundreds of "peripheral hearts", which are the body's skeletal muscles. The PHA system is similar to circuit training, moving from one body part to another trying to avoid a muscle pump, thus improving blood circulation throughout the body.

I have integrated PHA with Functional Exercise Progression, or FEP. FEP refers to gradually overloading the body's systems (i.e. increasing the training stimulus over time) to incrementally expose the body to even higher levels of physiological stress. The muscles are trained and developed in such a way as to make the performance of everyday activities easier, smoother, safer and more efficient. In conclusion, a 30 minute total body workout, at least once a week, will improve strength, flexibility, balance and circulation throughout the body.
